Here at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, we offer many different ways throughout the year for your child to learn what it means to love God, others, and themselves through fellowship and service.
Children of all ages are welcome to join us in any of our Sunday Morning worship services! Childcare is provided for infants up to 23 months in our Nursery. Sunday School starts at 9:30 and lasts an hour. We use age appropriate United Methodist Curriculum to tell Bible stories, play games, and make crafts. Classes range from 3yr – 5th grade. Children are also encouraged to worship with their families during any of our worship services. The 11:00am service in the Fellowship Hall is especially “child-friendly” with a special Time for Children.
Interested in baptism?
Next Baptism Class November 1 at 6:30 p.m.
To become a Christian is to receive a new identity. You no longer allow others to tell you who you are. Christ now claims you and instructs you. A Christian is one who has “put on Christ.” Baptism is how the Church celebrates becoming that new person. Please contact J’Nevelyn Lloyd (Director of Ministries with Children and Families) for more information. To register for the baptism class, contact Peggy Maxwell.
Created by God
Volunteers Needed for Created by God
January 5 and 6, or January 12 and 13
Church family, we have a wonderful opportunity to show Christ to families of our 4th and 5th graders here at TUMC and those in our community each year when we offer Created by God.
This ministry of teaching human sexuality to these kids in a way that is loving, factual and spiritual is very popular among families. YOU can help. You can pray for the kids and their families who will participate. You can pray about being a leader!
We need 30 adults who will commit to one weekend (Friday, 5:00 - 9:00PM and Saturday, 8:30AM - 4:00PM). Volunteer commitment is needed by November 1 in order to determine if the event can be offered on two weekends. There is also a need for kitchen help and kid supervision times. For further information, contact J’Nevelyn Lloyd, Sarah Wilson, or Kevin McHorse.
Loving our lord
Loving Our Lord (or LOL for short) is a mid-week ministry which regularly meets Wednesdays from 4:30 – 6:15 at TUMC every fall and spring semester. It’s an afternoon of Bible study for children 4 years old (by Sep. 1) through 5th-graders. We have Bible lessons, crafts, recreation, dinner, and music with JJ! Kids are divided up into age groups. Registration opens at the beginning of each semester.
Growing in God
Growing in God (or GIG for short) is a Bible study geared to 4th & 5th graders. We meet for one hour a week for kids to read and study straight from God’s word with J’Nevelyn Lloyd. In the past, we’ve studied the book of James and Philippians, read about the un-sung heroes in the Bible, and studied some of the women of the Bible.
Missions and Madness
Missions and Madness (or M&Ms for short) is an outreach program for 4th and 5th graders that focuses on teaching them what it means to be a servant. Whether we’re raising money to purchase livestock from Heifer International, collecting for a can food drive, putting together manna bags for people in need, raising money and awareness for ZOE, or doing odd jobs around the church, this ministry gives students an opportunity to look beyond themselves as they help others in and around their community.
Singing Our Song
It's time to make some music! Join us beginning Sunday, September 10 each Sunday this fall! . 2nd through 5th graders are encouraged to join for lunch with pizza and drinks in the Fellowship Hall kitchen at Noon before moving to the choir room for practice. Visit www.tumckids.church to register.
Special Events for Children
Lenten packets and calendars are available to families to enhance the meaning and time of the Lenten Season. We also encourage all families to attend our family-friendly Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper the day before Lent begins.
Easter Egg Hunt
Held on the church lawn every year, the Easter egg hunt is a great opportunity for all children (through the second grade) to come and have fun with a classic Easter tradition! Children and families are invited to join us for eggs, worship, food, games, and animals!
4th Grade Acolyte Training
One of our most popular Children’s ministries. Fourth grade students meet every fall to learn about the significance of the acolyte tradition in our worship services and how to perform the duties of an acolyte. They are then eligible to sign up as an acolyte for worship services throughout the year.
Children led worship
The one worship service of the year where the children are in charge! Worship is led by the children of the church. This is a great opportunity for children to teach and lead, as well as learn what it’s like participating in worship from the other side of the altar.
Packets for families of children wishing to bring a fuller understanding of the advent season are available. We also have a Christmas Musical that ends with a Christmas desserts party for Church families.
